About
Doomtrigger
Doomtrigger bring a groove-heavy edge to South African metalcore, driving thick guitar riffs through hard-hitting drums, breakdowns and contrasting vocal styles. Harsh vocals carry much of the aggression, while melodic hooks and cleaner passages give the songs room to breathe. Their sound draws from nu metal, groove metal and elements of deathcore, with synth layers adding atmosphere to selected tracks. Based in Stellenbosch, the four-piece balances rhythmic weight with melody and increasingly conceptual songwriting.
Band history
History
Doomtrigger emerged from Stellenbosch, South Africa, in 2021 after guitarist Kenne Loubser began writing material during the 2020 lockdown. The project developed into a four-piece with vocalist Jason Smith, bassist Robert Blair and drummer Etienne Nel. Their debut EP, Enter the Cosmic, arrived in April 2022, followed by Dark Continuum in May 2023. In 2024, the band began Circles, a trilogy of releases inspired by Dante Alighieri's Inferno. Circles: Part II followed on October 9, 2026, expanding the concept through Greed, Anger (River of Hate) and Heresy. Doomtrigger remain active on the South African live circuit, including a confirmed appearance on the Halloween 2026 Cape Town lineup.

Show details
Circles: Part II continues Doomtrigger's trilogy inspired by Dante's Inferno. Released on October 9, 2026, the five-track EP contains three full songs framed by a short prelude and interlude. Greed and Anger (River of Hate) return from earlier single releases, while Heresy completes this chapter. The closing track drives aggressive riffs and heavy drums through atmospheric synths, samples and layered vocals. Its lyrical themes address dogma, conviction and existential dread. The EP maintains the band's groove-driven metalcore foundation while developing the darker conceptual direction established on Circles: Part I.
