About

Mystical Death

Mystical Death take the weight of old school death metal into more unpredictable territory. The Amsterdam project builds its music around distorted riffs, harsh vocals and complex rhythmic patterns, then opens the arrangements to jazz fusion, synthesizers and symphonic passages. Multi-instrumentalist Mystic handles the compositions and instrumental work, with David Diefenderfer contributing harsh vocals and Vixi Fox providing clean singing. Shifting time signatures, contrasting vocal styles and melodic interruptions give the songs their distinctive character, while the writing draws on psychology, science and spirituality.

History

Mystical Death is a progressive and technical death metal project formed in Amsterdam, Netherlands, in early 2024 by multi-instrumentalist Mystic. Conceived primarily as a studio project, it developed around Mystic's songwriting and instrumental work, with vocal contributions from David Diefenderfer and Vixi Fox. The music draws on old school death metal while incorporating progressive structures, technical arrangements, jazz fusion and symphonic influences. The project's independently released debut EP, Carnation, arrived on September 14, 2024. Its five tracks introduced the combination of death metal aggression and experimental songwriting that would define Mystical Death. The EP attracted attention within the Dutch metal scene, including airplay and an interview on KINK FM. In January 2025, Mystical Death released the single Laniakea, extending the project's progressive approach. Later that year, the group joined American label Rottweiler Records. The label reissued Carnation on October 3, 2025, adding the bonus track This is our Revolution and making the EP available in physical and digital formats. Work continued on the project's first full-length album, Across. The advance singles Apophenia and Inundant appeared during 2026, followed by the title track in October. Across was scheduled for release through Rottweiler Records on November 6, 2026. Written, performed, mixed and mastered by Mystic, the ten-track album expands the project's musical vocabulary with jazz passages, saxophone, synthesizers and orchestral arrangements, while retaining its death metal foundation.

Across is the debut full-length album from Dutch progressive and technical death metal project Mystical Death, scheduled for November 6, 2026 through Rottweiler Records. The ten-track record builds on the project's old school death metal roots with complex arrangements, shifting time signatures and influences from jazz fusion and symphonic music. Opening track Apophenia moves between aggressive death metal and an experimental fusion passage. Laniakea explores contrasting rhythms and progressive structures, while Inundant takes a slower approach. Empathy introduces saxophone performances alongside technical riffs and changing meters. Kurtosis incorporates neoclassical elements, and the title track contrasts David Diefenderfer's harsh vocals with clean singing and vocoder effects. The album closes with two instrumentals, Voyagers and Sanctus, the latter drawing on orchestral music. Its lyrics address subjects including conspiracy theories, science, empathy, spirituality and the influence of social media. Mystic wrote the music and lyrics, performed the instrumental parts, and handled mixing and mastering. David Diefenderfer contributed harsh vocals, with Vixi Fox providing clean female vocals. Mystic also created the album's artwork.
