About

Burn Eternal

Burn Eternal bring together Howard Jones's powerful harsh vocals and melodic singing with Adam Dutkiewicz's tightly wound guitar riffs, heavy breakdowns and soaring leads. Rooted in New England metalcore, their music moves between aggressive, hardcore-driven rhythms and expansive melodic choruses. Syncopated guitar patterns, heavy bass grooves and sharp shifts in dynamics give the songs their weight. The project renews the musical partnership the pair established in Killswitch Engage, drawing on their shared history while giving them room to explore new ideas.

Band history

History

Burn Eternal is an American metalcore project formed by vocalist Howard Jones and guitarist and producer Adam Dutkiewicz, reuniting two musicians whose previous collaboration helped shape the sound of Killswitch Engage during the 2000s. Before joining forces in Killswitch Engage, Jones performed with Blood Has Been Shed, while Dutkiewicz was involved with Aftershock and helped establish Killswitch Engage in 1999. Jones joined Killswitch Engage in 2002, beginning a partnership that produced albums including The End of Heartache in 2004 and As Daylight Dies in 2006. Following Jones's departure from the band in 2012, the musicians continued pursuing separate projects. Jones went on to front Devil You Know and Light the Torch, and collaborated with Jared Dines in SION. Dutkiewicz remained a guitarist, songwriter and producer in Killswitch Engage, while also working with Times of Grace and Serpentine Dominion. The idea for Burn Eternal emerged when the former bandmates met for dinner in the United Kingdom while Killswitch Engage were touring with Iron Maiden. Jones asked Dutkiewicz whether he had any riffs available, beginning an extended period of writing and recording without a record deal or fixed deadline. Much of the initial guitar material was developed during the pandemic lockdowns. Recording sessions subsequently took place at Dutkiewicz's studio in San Diego, in the Cayman Islands and at Mainline Recording in Westfield, Massachusetts, formerly Zing Studios, where Killswitch Engage had recorded some of their earlier material. The musicians publicly identified the project as Burn Eternal in December 2024, announcing that their debut album had been mixed. The group formally signed with Metal Blade Records in October 2026. On November 5, 2026, Burn Eternal released their first single, Wounds I've Made, accompanied by an official lyric video. Their self-titled nine-track debut album was announced for February 26, 2027 through Metal Blade Records.

Burn Eternal is the self-titled debut album from the metalcore project featuring Howard Jones and Adam Dutkiewicz, scheduled for February 26, 2027 through Metal Blade Records. The nine-track record marks their first full-length project together since their years in Killswitch Engage. The album draws on the pair's established musical strengths, contrasting Jones's harsh screams and clean melodic vocals with Dutkiewicz's heavy guitar riffs, intricate leads and breakdowns. The material moves between aggressive metalcore, hardcore-influenced grooves and more atmospheric passages. Opening track Wounds I've Made was released as the album's first single on November 5, 2026, accompanied by an official lyric video. Written during the project's early development, the song confronts past mistakes, regret, difficult personal changes and the struggle to move forward rather than remain trapped by earlier decisions. No Escape begins with softer vocals before moving into heavy guitar rhythms. Blackheart draws on East Coast hardcore grooves, while Scared of Shadows features syncopated guitar passages and aggressive riffs. Bitter Pill places particular emphasis on a heavy rhythmic pulse. Born Again contrasts forceful guitar work with melodic singing and a guitar solo, while closing track Fell Silent develops a broader, cinematic atmosphere through its arrangement. The project took shape across recording sessions in San Diego, the Cayman Islands and Westfield, Massachusetts. The album artwork was created by Travis Smith, with promotional photography by Travis Shinn. Metal Blade Records has announced digital, CD and multiple vinyl editions, including retailer-exclusive variants.
