About
Human Nebula
Human Nebula drive progressive deathcore through tightly locked guitar rhythms, technical leads and heavy breakdowns. The Pretoria band's sound moves between djent-influenced chugs and expansive melodic passages, with harsh vocals adding another layer of intensity. Their arrangements draw on death metal weight without giving up the shifting structures and guitar detail of progressive metal. The contrast between blunt rhythmic attacks and more atmospheric sections gives their music a distinct shape, built for both close listening and the pit.
Band history
History
Human Nebula began in Pretoria, South Africa, in late 2017 when vocalist Gareth Reed and guitarist Kyle Botha developed the idea for a progressive deathcore band. Guitarist Timothy Lotter, bassist Dale McHardy and drummer Gavin Grobler joined during its early development. After almost a year of writing and rehearsing, the group played its first live show on November 17, 2018, the same day it released the independently produced EP Pillars of Creation. The record won Best EP at the 2019 South African Metal Music Awards. The band followed it with Veil in October 2019 and Andromeda in February 2020, the latter featuring a guest appearance by guitarist Lwandile Prusent. Further recordings included the single The Greater Will in 2024. On June 5, 2026, Human Nebula released Lying Tongues and Dying Suns, a four-track EP featuring three new songs and a remaster of The Greater Will. The release arrived alongside a video for Pantheon of Faces. The next day, the band won Wacken Metal Battle Africa at Sognage in Johannesburg, earning a place in the international final. Human Nebula performed on the Headbangers Stage at Wacken Open Air in Germany on July 29, 2026, representing South Africa and the wider African competition. The group remained active on the local live circuit and was billed for Halloween 2026 Pretoria in October.
