Seth Metoyer brings the weight of alternative metal into deeply personal songwriting, drawing on the darker side of late 1990s and early 2000s rock. His solo recordings pair distorted guitars and driving rhythms with atmospheric textures, melodic vocals and occasional industrial electronics. The Monterey musician moves between heavy, riff-led passages and quieter moments of reflection, exploring identity, grief, relationships and emotional survival. His music favours the tension between aggression and vulnerability, with layered studio production shaping its distinctive character.

History
Seth Metoyer is an American musician, songwriter, producer and composer based in Monterey, California. His work spans alternative metal, extreme metal, experimental music and film soundtracks. He is associated with several heavy music projects, most notably the death metal and grindcore band Mangled Carpenter, where he performs guitars and vocals. He is also a co-founder of Broken Curfew Records, an independent label that has collaborated with Rottweiler Records on multiple releases.
Alongside his heavier band projects, Metoyer has maintained a solo catalogue exploring different musical directions. His early releases included Musings by the Bay in May 2020, followed by the film soundtracks Blood Harvest in February 2023 and The Nightgown in June 2023. These projects established another side of his creative work beyond extreme metal.
In 2025, Metoyer turned toward the alternative rock and metal sound that influenced him during the late 1990s and early 2000s. The resulting album, Through the Vanishing Point, was released on May 16, 2025 through Broken Curfew Records and Rottweiler Records. Its songs explored memory, personal loss, relationships and emotional recovery through distorted guitars, atmospheric arrangements and melodic songwriting. Metoyer wrote, programmed and performed the material, with Kris Olson contributing bass guitar.
The album was preceded by the singles House of Echoes and A Sky Stitched in Blue. Metoyer continued releasing solo material later that year, including Flicker of December. His 2026 recordings included a reinterpretation of Stryper's All of Me, accompanied by an industrial version, and The Mortal Existence, a theme composed for a tabletop role-playing game.
During the same period, Metoyer continued his work with Mangled Carpenter. The band released Between Blood and Silence in July 2026 through Broken Curfew Records in partnership with Rottweiler Records, developing its death metal and grindcore foundation with industrial textures and experimental arrangements.
In November 2026, Metoyer introduced Filed Down, the first single from his announced solo album The Virus of Time, scheduled for December 4, 2026. The track returns to his alternative metal sound, addressing personal identity, social expectations and the compromises people make while trying to belong.
Filed Down is an alternative metal single by American musician Seth Metoyer, released on November 6, 2026 as the first preview of his forthcoming album The Virus of Time. The album is scheduled for December 4 through Broken Curfew Records and Rottweiler Records.
Drawing on the alternative rock and metal sound of the early 2000s, Filed Down places heavy guitar riffs and driving rhythms alongside industrial textures, melancholic melodies and emotionally charged vocals. Metoyer describes it as one of the album's heavier compositions.
The song explores the gradual erosion of personal identity through relationships, disappointments and the pressure to meet other people's expectations. Its central theme concerns the difference between genuine personal growth and changing oneself simply to gain acceptance.
Metoyer approaches the subject through the compromises people make to maintain relationships or avoid conflict, questioning how much of their original identity survives those experiences. Filed Down continues the introspective direction established on his 2025 solo album Through the Vanishing Point while emphasising a heavier musical approach.
